About Yaroslav Kuzminov

Graduate of the Faculty of Economics, Moscow State University M.V. Lomonosov.

In 1992, together with E.G. Yasin proposed to the Government the concept of creating a new economic university - the Higher School of Economics. In the same year, 1992, he became the youngest rector of a state university in Russia. Under his leadership, the HSE, literally organized from scratch, has become one of the leading universities and research and expert centers in Russia, whose graduates have the strongest positions in the labor market.
Author of over 100 scientific publications published in Russia and abroad, co-author of over 10 monographs and textbooks.

About Luciano Saso

Prof. Luciano Saso (Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy) received his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Sapienza University in 1992. He is author of more than 250 scientific articles published in peer reviewed international journals with impact factor (SASO-L in www.pubmed.com, total impact factor > 500, H-index Google Scholar 47, Scopus 39). He coordinated several research projects and has been referee for many national and international funding agencies and international scientific journals in the last 30 years.

Prof. Saso has extensive experience in international relations and he is currently Vice-Rector for European University Networks at Sapienza University of Rome. In the last 15 years, he participated in several projects and has been speaker and chair at many international conferences organised by the UNICA network of the universities from the Capitals of Europe (http://www.unica-network.eu/) and other university associations. Prof. Saso has been Member of the Steering Committee of UNICA for two mandates (2011-2015) and he is currently President of UNICA (2015-2023).

About Sergey Roshchin

Vice Rector of the National Research University Higher School of Economics (NRU HSE) Head of the Department of Labor and Population Economics, Faculty of Economics, NRU HSE since 2005.
Graduated from Moscow M.V. Lomonosov State University  in 1985 with a degree in Economic Cybernetics. 1985-1988 - Postgraduate student of the Faculty of Economics, Moscow State University. Later, from 1989 to 1991, Sergei Roshchin lectured at the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations of the Faculty of Economics, Moscow State University.
In 1995 he received a PhD in Economics. From 1996 to 2006 he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Labor Economics and Personnel at the Faculty of Economics, Moscow State University.

The impact of COVID-19 on university teaching: challenges and opportunities

The Covid-19 pandemic crisis hit most of us quickly and deeply. We were forced to move over night almost all the academic activities online. That means that we had to adapt very quickly to a new teaching context and adopt new norms and regulations. This educational change came with some costs, but also with various benefits. In my talk, I shall present and discuss some the pros and cons of this challenges and opportunities.

About Sorin Costreie

Sorin Costreie is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Theoretical Philosophy, University of Bucharest, and Vice-Rector of the same university. He is also State Advisor to the Prime-Minister for Education and Research. Scientifically, he has been lately focused on mathematical cognition, critical thinking and medical humanities.

Blended Mobility (BM): synergy between blended learning and academic exchange not only to address mobility for all 

The talk will focus onto the emergence of BM as a new mobility model affordable for more students and friendlier with many instances that make difficult traditional physical mobility such as family, financial, psychological or social barriers. Different BM schemes that might also be attractive to enrich joint study programs will also be analyzed.

With the irruption of COVID19 in our lives and the deployment of European Universities projects, BM can become rather quickly a powerful tool to enhance a more fruitful academic interaction between students from different backgrounds and universities of origin, and to make possible the integration of mobility within curricula.

About Carmela Calés-Bourdet

Professor Carmela Calés-Bourdet is full professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Department of Biochemistry, School of Medicine, Universidad Autónoma of Madrid (UAM). Her research interest has focused on the role of epigenetic regulators in hematopoietic stem cells physiology and malignancy at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas Alberto Sols (IIBAS). 

For thirty years now, she has been teaching to medical and biochemistry undergraduate and graduate students, and supervised a number of MSc and PhD dissertations. She has also actively participated in the design of new Bachelor and Master Degrees, of various innovative courses and received several UAM grants to develop and implement innovative T&L tools.

From 2010 to 2017, she was the Director of UAM Scientific Culture Unit, previously Vice-Dean for Research of the School of Medicine (1999-2001), and Vice-Director at the IIBAS (2001-2003). From July 2017, she is the Vice-Rector for Internationalization of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She has actively participated in the genesis of “CIVIS, A European Civic University” (one of the seventeen alliances selected in the 2019 Erasmus+ first pilot call). She is presently member of its Steering Committee. Two years ago she was elected member of the Executive Committee for Internationalization and Cooperation of the Spanish Conference of Rectors (CRUE), and more recently of UNICA Steering Committee.

Higher Education in the new “normal”: How digital pedagogies are transforming the traditional teaching-learning model

The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered the fastest transformation of the teaching-learning delivery in higher education in centuries. Despite the traditional reluctance of teachers to embrace the use of technology in support of education, today teaching online is the new “normal.” However, such an approach is not exempt from limitations and excesses. Key issues, trends and opportunities on the topic will be analyzed and discussed.

About Francisco Marmolejo

Professor Francisco Marmolejo is an international educational administrator. Currently, he is the Education Advisor of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Health and Community Development, based in Doha, Qatar. From 2012 to 2020, he served as Lead Tertiary Education Specialist of the World Bank. At this institution, he served as Global Coordinator of Tertiary Education from 2012 to 2018, and, from 2016 to 2020 as Lead Education Specialist for India and Asia, based in Delhi, India.

Coping with the Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on Australia Universities

Higher Education Institutions in Australia were significantly challenged with the COVID-19 pandemic. Most universities suspended on-campus course delivery and had to rapidly redevelop the curriculum for online offering. About Yi Ren

Prof Ren is an experienced international executive and researcher with a keen interest in  the effective management of international programs and partnerships. He has been  working in higher education for more than 15 years, including positions at the University  of Melbourne, University of Queensland, Victoria University, Macquarie University and the  University of Southern Queensland. 

Prof. Ren is an expert on internationalisation for higher education sector. He was one of  the special experts for the Australian Council for International Education. He was also  commissioned to complete the Australian Postgraduate Research Student Mobilities Report  by the Department of Education and Training. In 2015 and 2016, Prof Ren represented  Australia at the Asia Pacific Economic Corporation (APEC) meeting in Indonesia and Peru  on APEC Researcher Mobility and completed report on behalf of Australian Government and  APEC. 

Prof Ren is actively involved with the research management profession. He is the Past  President of the Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS) and is an active  member of the International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS). He  has also been appointed to different research management committees by the Australia  Research Council and by Universities Australia. In 2009, Ren was awarded an Australian  Endeavour Executive Award by Deputy Prime Minister Hon Julia Gillard. In the same year  he won an Award for Excellence from the Australasian Research Management Society for  embedding research administration in a regional university. In 2016 Prof Ren was awarded  the Distinguished Service Award to Research Management by the Australasian Research  Management Society. 

He has extensive experience as a researcher, completing a PhD at the University of  Melbourne in economic geography and international business in 2004. He completed an  Australia Research Council Linkage grant in 2015 focusing on international business, social  psychology and economic geography. Prof Ren is currently a reviewer for the Academy of  International Business and the Australian Research Council. 

Prof. Ren also has extensive industry management experience. He has participated in  several management consulting projects for international companies. Prof Ren was the  Vice President and Executive Officer for the Australia China Business Council (ACBC) QLD  Branch from 2005-2007. 

Deepening the Education Reform through the Waves of Online Education

In 2020, the impact of COVID-19 has triggered the waves of online education, which has become the new normal of teaching and learning in the higher education. Three waves of online education have been formed from the Open Courseware (2000) of assisted learning, to the Massive Open Online Courses (2010) of learning on-demand, and then to the school-based online teaching (2020) with full participation of learning for all. In the third wave, school-based online learning, triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, makes online education more popular and universal. This talk is entitled “Deepening the Education Reform through the Waves of Online Education”.

I will introduce the online teaching the learning during the school closures from Chinese experience during and after COVID-19 pandemic. I will also elaborate the 7 basic facts about the online education, from both of instructional design perspective and organization perspective, and also will discuss the online merge offline learning (OMO) model, which is generated from the three waves of online education and will deepen the education reform. From the perspective of students, new educational pattern will be reformed during the post-pandemic era, conducted by flexible learning and active learning. Several basic concerns will be proposed to promote the reform of Internet based education, which needs the joint research and cooperation among countries.

About Runguai Huang

Ronghuai Huang is a Professor in Faculty of Education of Beijing Normal University  (BNU). He has been engaged in the research on smart learning environment, artificial  intelligence in education, educational technology as well as knowledge engineering. He  received ‘Chang Jiang Scholar’ award in 2016, which is the highest academic award  presented to an individual in higher education by the Ministry of Education of China. He  serves as Co-Dean of Smart Learning Institute, Director of UNESCO International Rural  Educational and Training Centre, and Director of China National Engineering Lab for  Cyberlearning Intelligent Technology. He is very active in academic organizations both at  home and abroad. He is also Committeeman of the Science Subject Expert Committee of  the National Textbook Committee, Co-Leader of Information and Communication  Technology Course Standard Group in Ordinary Senior High School, Vice-Chairman of  China Educational Technology Association, Vice-Chairman of Teaching Guidance  Committee of Educational Technology at Institutions of Higher Education, Vice-Chairman  of Beijing Education Informatization Expert Committee, and Expert of MOE AI Innovation  Panel. He is also President of The Global Chinese Society for Computers in Education, Vice President of International Association of Smart Learning Environments, and Editor-in 

Chief of Springer’s Journal of Smart Learning Environment and Journal of Computers in  Education. Till now, he has accomplished and is working on over 100 projects, and his  ideas have been widely spread, with about 400 academic papers and over 40 books  published at home and aboard.

About Betty Vandenbosch

Officer at Coursera, where she oversees the company’s content and credential strategy and partner relationships. Before joining Coursera, Betty was chancellor of Purdue University Global, an institution resulting from Purdue University’s 2018 acquisition of Kaplan University. At Purdue, Betty oversaw academics for more than 32,000 students – most of whom earned their degrees online. Before that, Betty held a number of leadership positions at Kaplan University and served as associate dean and associate professor at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. Throughout her career, Betty has won several awards in teaching and research. She earned her PhD in Management Information Systems and M.B.A. from Western University in Ontario, Canada.

About James Fitzgerald

James Fitzgerald grew up in Manhattan, New York, and went to the University of San Francisco where I studied Mathematics and Chinese. After living in China for a number of years, I moved to the Hopkins Nanjing Center for International relations where I studied economics and wrote a thesis on the development of the sports market in China. After graduating, James moved to Shanghai to start a youth sports company focusing on the training of American Football and Baseball. For more than two years now, James has been working as the online operations coordinator for the Alibaba Cloud Academy as a promoter of cloud education and enthusiast of future technology.

About John Katzman

John Katzman is the founder and CEO of The Noodle Companies, a studio whose operating companies connect learners, educators, and technologies. Prior to that, he founded and ran 2U, which works with research universities to create high-quality online degree programs. Before that, he founded and ran The Princeton Review, which helped over 50% of students applying to U.S. colleges and universities each year find, get into, and pay for school. Katzman is the co-author of five books and a director of several for- and non-profits, including the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, the National Alliance of Public Charter Schools, American Honors, and Renaissance Learning.

About Kamila Cioś

Kamila Cioś - after some years working at Google on the Ads side of business, she now is Learning Program Manager for Google Cloud. Enthusiast of skills management and people development through the potential of their strengths. For many years an active volunteer, project leader and coordinator of cooperation with the third sector. At Google, she is also involved in internal and external Corporate Social Responsibility and D&I initiatives. She likes cross-sector, innovative projects the most. She graduated from Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Wrocław.

About Andrey Sebrant

He was invited to the company in 2004 as a director for special projects. Graduated from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 1977, then worked at the branch of the Institute of Atomic Energy named after Kurchatov, and since 1989 began to combine scientific activity with work in Internet projects, taking an active part in international educational online initiatives. In 1995, he took the post of Marketing Director of one of the first Russian Internet companies, Glasnet, and then editor of the Russian branch of the American portal About. From 2001 to 2003 - General Producer and Director of Strategy for the Russian division of Lycos Europe. Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, author of more than 60 scientific papers in the field of laser physics and nonlinear processes of interaction of laser radiation with matter. Permanent editor-in-chief of the professional magazine "Internet Marketing" since its creation in 2001. Professor of Practice at the Higher School of Economics, member of the Expert Council of the Polytechnic Museum.
